Francisella tularensis is classified as a category A priority pathogen by NIAID due to the high level of infectivity of this organism and its ability to be aerosolized. The hypothesis of this proposal is that FabI, the enoyl reductase enzyme in the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway, is a target for drug discovery against F. tularensis. We are extending our studies on the FabI enzyme from MTB (InhA) to include the FabI enzymes from F. tularensis as well as other pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus. |
