Let's Get Some New Equipment

Kudos

Congratulations!  All the scouts in our troop did a tremendous job in the recent fundraising efforts.  We were very lucky to have such beautiful weather for our car wash so late in September.  It was probably to our advantage that it had rained that week and everybody's cars were mud-splattered.  All they had to do was come to our Scout Car Wash and we took care of their splatters and mud.  And come they did!!!  Our troop washed a total of 97 cars.  Most people donated about $5.00, so that day netted our troop $485.00 minus a few dollars for soap and sponges.  We have to remember our sponsors, the Neat & Nice Nursery, who allowed  us to use their water access.

Our other fundraiser for the fall was the popcorn sale.  It was also very successful and it seems a lot of families will have plenty of popping corn for those cold winter evenings that are perfect for movie nights.  This fundraiser added $125.00 to our $485.00 from the car wash for a total of $610.00.

Now--What to do with all that money!  It was decided by the young people of the troop that we need to purchase some new camping equipment.

Challenge

Let's get as much for our dollars as possible.  If we all put some effort into searching for the best deals, we will all feel good about how we spend our hard-earned money.  Each of the three patrols can do research online, at stores or in catalogs for a few of the items we need.  This way the research will not be overwhelming for any one group.

How to Find the Bargains

1.  Break into patrols and look for information on your patrol's selected items-
Patrol 1--one 3-4 person tent to be used at least 3 seasons of the year
Patrol 2--a cooking griddle or similar cooking gear and a lantern
Patrol 3--a camping table and a washing unit (like a makeshift sink)

2.  Look at online sites listed in the following resource section, check camping gear catalogs (such as LL.Bean), or visit stores.

3.  Remember to keep accurate notes on all your research including where you found the information, how much the item costs and anything else you think would be important to share with your troop mates.

4.  Be ready to present your information at next week's meeting.  We want to be able to make informed decisions that night so that we can purchase these items for our next camping trip coming up at the end of November.
