How to search Korean materials

STARS (Stony Brook Automated Retrieval System) is the web-based online catalog for Stony Brook University. It consists of over 2.1 million items in more than 25 languages including Korean. You will need to know how to search Korean materials in STARS to fully utilize the collection.

·  Searching by Romanization

All Korean language materials are romanized using McCune-Reischauer Romanization System. Romanized searching is recommended as it is often the fastest way of searching. Records retrieved by romanized searches will display bibliographic information in Korean. The following links will help you to better understand how to romanize Korean:

It is important to use the correct form of romanization to retrieve materials by using McCune-Reischauer system. It is not necessary to input diacritics. Use the regular Latin vowel (e.g. Chong-hui for Chŏng-hŭi, Yonguk for Yŏn’gŭk).
