Korean Studies Collection Stony Brook University

Welcome! The Korean Studies Collection was established in 1987 to support the teaching and research of faculty and students in the Korean Studies Program at Stony Brook University. Starting with only 100 books, the Korean Studies Collection has steadily increased through the years and now includes more than 20,000 monographs and periodicals. Donations from local community groups, the Korea Foundation, Dongguk University in Korea and University of Washington in Seattle and the library’s continuous efforts have contributed to the rapid growth of the collection. About the Collection The collection comprises a wide range of subject areas including Korean arts, anthropology, folklore, history, linguistics, literature, musicology, religion, philosophy, political science and sociology. The majority of the collection is in Korean with large portions in Japanese and Chinese and some Western languages which all relate to Korean studies. The collection contains not only scholarly journals, research papers, and reports, but also dictionaries and historical resources. In addition, there are many North Korean publications, out-of-print publications and rare books. Highlights from the Korean Studies Collection About the Program in Korean Studies Established in 1987, the program in Korean Studies offers interdisciplinary curriculum for the study of Korean language, culture, anthropology, society, literature, arts, philosophy and religion. It has enriched multicultural experience of Stony Brook students by offering a range of courses dealing with Korea and Korean people. About the Center for Korean Studies Dedicated to diverse research and education for Korean Studies, the Center for Korean Studies supports the activities of students, faculty and scholars at Stony Brook University with Korea-related teaching and research. It coordinates the resources of the University with those of local communities, institutions, organizations and individual scholars engaged in the study of Korea. It also hosts the study abroad program during summer.
