We have recently exploited the VUV excimer laser at 157nm to perform universal detection of radical products in crossed-beam reactive scattering, providing a highly sensitive probe of chemical reactions under well-defined conditions. We have performed an extensive study of reaction dynamics in O(3P) + alkanes and Cl + alcohols systems, and we are currently pursuing work on Cl+alkanes using DC slice imaging. Results for reaction of Cl atoms with n-pentane are shown below. The use of DC slice imaging to obtain these images allows the velocity-flux contour maps to be obtained directly in the experiment.

The translational energy and angular distributions obtained from this image are shown below. The results show a tendency toward conservation of translational energy in all these H-L-H systems.
