A Sporulation Primer (Models and Micrographs)

Lab Personnel Publications Courses

The research in our lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that control the formation of spores. Spore formation is accomplished by an unusual cell division event in which the daughter cells are formed in the cytoplasm of the mother cell by the direct envelopment of daughter nuclei inside de novo synthesized plasma membranes (termed prospore membranes). This process requires the regulated alteration and re-direction of the secretory pathway to form the prospore membrane. Understanding the hows and whys of prospore membrane formation is the central effort of our laboratory.
