About the IPS:

The International Philosophical Seminar (IPS), held each summer in the pleasant alpine atmosphere of Northern Italy, brings together a group of highly distinguished international scholars in philosophy and literary theory. The seminar provides a framework for thought in an unconstrained environment with a view toward an intensely rigorous exchange of ideas, philosophical views, and theories.

Directions to the

Hotel Tianes ****

From the U.S. the most convenient (and perhaps least expensive) flight is to Frankfurt or Munich or Milano.

There is also a small airport in Bolzano which can be reached from several European cities.

The least expensive car rentals are located in Frankfurt or Munich.

In Europe, take the train to Bolzano (Bozen), Italy. Bolzano is on the direct line south from Insbruck and north from Verona.

In Bolzano: A week or two before you leave, please indicate to the hotel via e-mail or phone [ 700097] when you expect to arrive at the Station.

You should ask at that time for the Hotel to arrange to pick you up at the train station. You will be taken from the station into the mountains (a 40-50 minute car ride).

By car, take the autostrada to Bolzano (Bozen) if you are coming from the South, to Bressanone, if you are coming from the North.

From Bolzano, continue north to Prato Isarco (Blumau), then to Siusi (Seis) and finally to Castelrotto (Kastelruth) with a very brief ride to the Hotel Tianes on the left after going through Kastelruth toward S. Michele.

From Bressanone, continue south (either on the regular road along the river or on the Autostrada travelling south from the Brenner Pass at the Austrian border to Ponte Gardena (Waidbruck).

When you exit the Autostrada at Klausen, you will travel straight up the hill to St. Ulrigh (Ortisei). Just before St. Ulrich turn right on the road through the tunnel leading to Seis and the Seiseralm/ Alpe di Siusi. Follow signs to the Hotel Tianes on the right shortly after S. Michele.

On the regular road, you will cross the bridge, make a right and follow the mountain road to Castelrotto/ Kastelruth and then drive through Kastelruth to S. Michele.

Another way from Ponte Gardena: make a left after crossing Ponte Gardena, follow road to St. Ulrich and just before St. Ulrich turn right on the road leading to Seis and the Seiseralm/ Alpe di Siusi. Follow signs to the Hotel Tianes shortly after S. Michele.
