STUDENTS IN THE ART AND PHILOSOPHY GRADUATE CERTIFICATE

Three types of students will benefit from the Stony Brook Graduate Certificate Program in Art and Philosophy.

Currently enrolled graduate students in

(a)   ART HISTORY AND CRITICISM

(b)   PHILOSOPHY

(c)   RELATED FIELDS IN THE HUMANITIES AND FINE ARTS

The advanced Graduate Certificate will provide a supplementary graduate program, permitting students in any one of these three areas to formalize their study of the interconnections between art and philosophy.

The Advanced Graduate Certificate will provide a rubric under which students will be able to study the art-philosophy interface and to benefit from opportunities for study afforded by both the Philosophy and Art Programs.

The Certificate will highlight student's expertise in this interdisciplinary area, enhancing their employment opportunities when they have completed their doctoral degree.

Although not required, the student's doctoral thesis topic should focus on or incorporate issues/topics in the general area of Philosophy and the Arts. The Advanced Certificate program should help to provide valuable interdisciplinary experience so as to support cross-disciplinary research in the writing of a thesis or doctoral dissertation.
